What a spectacular setting for a great Wedding! Laura and Justin were married at Timber Bay Resort, just outside of Babbitt MN. It was a spectacular Fall day with just enough cloud cover to keep everyone from needing shades. The couple had the run of the entire resort, with their closest friends and family attending the festivities. The day began with everyone getting ready for pictures, and ended with an evening Bar-Be-Que after taking a cruise on a couple of Houseboats. Thanks again to all the friends who made this such a memorable occasion for everyone involved.

Who schedules an engagement photo shoot on the hottest day of the year so far? I do, I guess. Kristy and Chris were good sports and a really cute couple, 90+ degree temps didn’t faze them. We got some great shots on the campus of Saint John’s University, and then headed out for hills of greater Stearns County to get the final pics on Chris’s Harley. Just back from a spectacular vacation to Standing Rock State Park, Chicago Illinois, and the Wisconsin Dells. It was nice to have some family time and see some of the sites in the Midwest. I am including some of my favorite photos from an afternoon spent at the Shedd Aquarium, at their featured exhibit on jellyfish. They are such a beautiful and stunning subject matter, I wanted to share some of my favorite shots. Keep in mind these are all handheld, using available lighting. The architecture of these creatures is pretty amazing when you consider that they are only one cell thick, and yet they look so distinctively different from one species to another.

The End of Winter?

Waking up to a final blast of snow this morning made me appreciate the coming change of seasons. With the long winter and epic snowfall the last few months, I am ready to think spring. It’s hard to believe the lakes around here were still covered in ice only two weeks ago. I drive by this pond nearly everyday, and I vowed to capture one last photo of the transition from ice to open water. Now only six more months or so until the next snowfall of the season. I can’t wait to go cross country skiing again.

Tom and Judy were married at St Augustine’s on a beautiful, sunny but cold, day at the beginning of March. The happy couple was positively beaming, and I it reminded me how lucky I am to witness the beginning of so many people’s lives in marriage. On Wednesday Jan 12, 2011 my sister-in-law and brother-in-law were finally able to reunite with their family, after an almost 6 month ordeal adopting their daughter from Nepal. They have been in the process of adopting their daughter for almost four years, but after being placed with their daughter Maya at the end of July, the US State Dept. suspended adoptions from Nepal in August, leaving Cherie few options except to go to Nepal to finalize everything and wait for their case to be approved. The back story on why adoptions to Nepal were sidelined is quite long and very complicated, and anyone with an interest can check out some very good blogs here:

Starting off 2011 with a look back

Yikes, where did 2010 go? Without realizing it, I completely neglected putting up any posts for the year. So, as with most New Year’s resolutions, I am starting the year with the best intentions of at least a post or two per month. Looking back at 2010, I was very busy, even if it didn’t look like it. I don’t think I could post a lot of what I was shooting, since it would give a preview of a lot of the freelance gigs I was doing at the time. The images that follow are a snapshot of some my best from 2010, and as always, I am looking forward to what the coming year has in store.

I have known Molly since we worked together at the ‘Barne’, going on almost eight years now. I was honored when she asked me to photograph her Wedding to Daniel and jumped at the chance to drive further out West to a country church outside of Watertown, South Dakota. The days events culminated with a Wedding Reception at the Goss Opera House. A big Thank You again and Congratulations to the Newlyweds.

Jamie and Steve were actually married earlier in the year in South Carolina, but they celebrated with all of their family and friends on Sunday, September 6 at Mi Famiglia in downtown St. Cloud. It was a great party, and I am honored to have been asked to capture such a happy couple start their new life together.
